The History of Morse Code
Morse code was originally invented in 1836 by Samuel Morse (pictured to the right), Joseph Henry, and Alfred Vail. It was invented because they needed a language for the newly invented telegraph. International Morse Code uses all letters in the American alphabet and also includes numbers. These signals were used by everyone from civilians to operators in the military. It is also used by air traffic control in some cases, however these cases are few. It is the most popular among ham radio operators. Some signals became widely known between all people, such as the SOS signal. Below is the SOS signal:

At Disney World, they play a version of Walt Disney's Opening Day speech in Morse code. They played the same recording day after day until one day a regular ham radio operator recognized that part of the code was done incorrectly, and he corrected what they had been doing wrong for years!
